A Life-Changing Accident

Muscle Rehab’s story begins with resilience. In her sophomore year of college, Debra was on her way to work when a tragic accident changed everything. A driver, distracted by a dropped cigarette, swerved into her lane at 70 mph, causing a devastating head-on collision.

First responders fought to keep her alive, using the Jaws of Life to extract her from the wreckage—a process that took nearly an hour. "I died at the scene, but they were able to revive me several times," she recalls. "I remember the sound of steel being ripped open, the heat from the blowtorches, the piercing noise—it was chaos."

I died at the scene, but they were able to revive me several times.

The bandages and visible swelling/bruising suggest recent trauma, possibly from an accident. Medical tubes and hospital bedding are visible, indicating that Debra is receiving treatment.

Enduring The Impossible

The accident left Debra with 26 broken bones, requiring over 30 surgeries. Doctors warned her she might never walk again—or, at best, would have a severe limp. But giving up wasn’t an option.

"I was always active—playing sports, cheerleading—the thought of never walking again felt unreal. I had to prove them wrong," she says. "It was mind over body. The pain was extreme, but I had to make the choice to keep
going."

Her recovery spanned decades. The first week alone involved 10 surgeries. Rebuilding shattered bones required innovative procedures, often leaving her immobilized for months. Yet, through every setback, she pushed forward.

There are visible signs of bruising and injury, likely from a serious accident. The patient has a calm or faintly smiling expression despite the injuries, and the background includes striped hospital curtains.

A Lifetime of Recovery & Pain Management

Despite medical interventions, pain became a constant companion. Physical therapy was grueling, starting with daily sessions that eventually tapered to periodic maintenance. Prescription painkillers were a necessity at first, but they came at a cost. "I had a prescription drug addiction that lasted longer than I like to admit," she shares. "Once I got clean, I refused to take any pain medication or drink alcohol again."

Determined to find a natural way to manage pain, Debra turned to an unexpected source: water. "I realized early on that being in water—whether a pool or a bath—relieved my body’s weight and eased the pain. It wasn’t 100%, but it was enough to make a difference."

It was mind over body. The pain was extreme, but I had to make the choice to keep going.

The Birth of Muscle Rehab

For years, Debra experimented with essential oils, bath soaks, and natural remedies, searching for the perfect solution. It wasn’t until a conversation with fellow athletes that an idea took shape.

"They talked about using Epsom salt for recovery, and I thought, ‘What if I combined the essential oils I’d been using for pain relief with Epsom salt?’ Would it be effective? Would it appeal to both men and women? Athletes already believe in soaking—so why not make something specifically designed for them?"

And so, in 2018, Muscle Rehab was born.
